Procedure Volume Measures

Procedure volume measures report the number of procedures performed in a hospital for certain medical conditions. There is some scientific evidence that suggests that a higher volume of procedures performed in a hospital is associated with a lower death rate. For example, scientific articles and medical journals have suggested that for some complex medical and surgical procedures, there is less likelihood of dying from the medical procedure when the procedure takes place in a hospital by doctors that perform these procedures on a regular basis.

The procedure volume measures should be used in conjunction with the corresponding mortality measure, both of which can be found on this website.
