Pediatric Diabetes Inpatient Volume Measure |
|
Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body produces little or no insulin, which causes blood glucose (blood sugar) to be too high. Over time, high blood glucose can lead to serious problems with the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, gums and teeth. There are two types of diabetes:
Type 1 - the pancreas does not make insulin. Type 1 diabetes happens most often in children and young adults, but can appear at any age.
Type 2 - the body does not make or use insulin well.
The pediatric diabetes inpatient volume measure is reporting on the total number of admissions to a hospital for diabetic-related illnesses.
