Pediatric Gastrointestinal (GI) Illnesses Inpatient Volume Measure

The pediatric gastrointestinal (GI) illness inpatient volume measure is reporting on the total number of admissions to a hospital for GI-related illnesses. Examples of GI illnesses include:

  • Diarrhea - caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites, certain medicines, food intolerances and diseases that affect the stomach, small intestine or colon.

  • Gastroenteritis - an inflammation of the lining of the intestines caused by a virus, bacteria or parasites.
